An Introduction

Your home has an energy.
Vastu is the science of it.

Vastu Shastra is a 5,000-year-old Indian system of spatial design. It describes how the layout, orientation, and energy of a building shape the wellbeing of the people who live in it — and what to do when something is out of balance.

वास्तु शास्त्र

Vastu — dwelling, building, or living space.
Shastra — science, knowledge, or system.

Together: "the science of living spaces." One of the oldest known frameworks for understanding how physical space affects human life.

The Foundation

Everything is made of five elements.

Vastu Shastra is built on one simple idea: your home is made of the same five elements as the universe itself. When these elements are balanced in your space, life feels easier. When they're not, you feel it — even if you can't explain why.

🌍 Earth Prithvi South-West

Stability, grounding, and long-term security. The master bedroom belongs in this zone — it anchors sleep and relationships.

💧 Water Jal North-East

Flow, clarity, and new beginnings. The most sacred zone. Should always be open, light, and completely free of clutter.

🔥 Fire Agni South-East

Energy, digestion, and transformation. The kitchen lives here. Cooking facing east supports health and vitality.

💨 Air Vayu North-West

Movement, communication, and change. Governs how opportunities flow in and out of your life.

Space Akasha Centre

The Brahmasthan — the heart of the home. Must stay open and unobstructed. Heavy furniture here suppresses the whole home's energy.

Direction & Energy

Every direction tells a different story.

Compass direction is one of the first things Rashi assesses in every consultation. The direction your home faces — and the direction of each room within it — determines which elemental energy governs that space, and what that means for the people living there.

N
North — Wealth & CareerGoverned by Kuber, deity of prosperity. North-facing entrances support financial growth. Keep this zone active and well-lit.
NE
North-East — Wisdom & Spiritual EnergyThe most sacred corner. Prayer rooms and meditation spaces belong here. Never used for storage or toilets.
E
East — Health & New BeginningsDirection of the rising sun. The most auspicious for a main entrance. Excellent for children's rooms and study areas.
SE
South-East — Fire & EnergyThe kitchen zone. Cooking facing east here supports digestion and family health.
SW
South-West — Stability & RelationshipsThe master bedroom zone. Sleeping with your head pointing south promotes deep, restful sleep.

Common Misconceptions

What Vastu is — and what it isn't.

Most people who haven't worked with a Vastu consultant have a misconception or two. Here are the most common ones.

❌   Myth

Vastu requires structural changes.
Most people assume you need to knock down walls, move staircases, or remodel your kitchen. This belief stops many families from ever exploring it.

✦   Reality

Almost every remedy is non-structural.
Furniture placement, sleeping direction, colour, plants, mirrors, light. Rashi has never once recommended demolition work. Every remedy is reversible and renter-safe.

❌   Myth

Vastu is a religious practice.
It comes from the Vedic tradition, so people assume you need to be Hindu, or spiritually inclined, to benefit from it.

✦   Reality

Vastu is a spatial science.
It works the same way for everyone regardless of belief. Direction, proportion, light, and elemental balance are observable phenomena — not matters of faith.

❌   Myth

It won't work in a British home.
Victorian terraces, new builds, flats — none of these were designed with Vastu in mind, so people assume the principles simply don't apply.

✦   Reality

Vastu adapts to any home.
The principles are universal. What changes is how they're applied. Working within the reality of UK homes — not against it — is exactly what Rashi specialises in.

5,000 Years of Knowledge

Where did Vastu come from?

Vastu Shastra has its roots in the Vedic tradition of ancient India — the same tradition that gave rise to yoga, Ayurveda, and classical Indian music. The earliest Vastu texts are estimated to be between 3,000 and 5,000 years old.

It was used to design some of the greatest buildings in Indian history — temples, palaces, entire cities. The ancient city of Dholavira, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Gujarat, shows clear evidence of Vastu planning in its layout.

3000–5000 BCE

Earliest Vastu principles documented in the Vedic texts, including the Manasara and Vishwakarma Prakash.

Ancient India

Used to design temples, palaces, and entire cities. The principles govern proportion, direction, and spatial energy.

Spread across Asia

Vastu principles influenced Balinese and Thai temple architecture, and share roots with the Chinese system of Feng Shui.

Today

A significant revival worldwide — particularly among British Indian families seeking to honour their heritage in their UK homes.

"Vastu does not require you to believe anything. It simply asks you to observe."
